Tue 12 Sept – Day 13 - Day 3 - The Battlefields of the Somme Amiens to Albert

I woke with the alarm and went down to breakfast around 7:30

It’s a very misty/foggy day today.

We got away around 9:15. Our local guide was delayed because of a road accident.  Her name is Alison, she is English and has lived in France for 18 years.

We were driving through the town of Albert at 9:44.

Beaumont-hamel. 9:55 back at the bus at 10;35 I think.

She imparted so much information that I couldn't take it all in. It also became very cold and rainy, so I stayed on the coach at some of the stops.

Next was a stop at the Royal Newfoundland Regiment.

Before our coffee stop at the Ulster Memorial

tower at 10ish.

Gerwin decided to take a group photo here, which he will send out in an email. we departed there at 11:30.

British and Sth African Memorial 11:46.  Back on board 12:15.

14:52 another stop. 15:03 we leave another cemetery. The windmill.

This one a NZ cemetary. Drove past Pozier British cemetary.

We visited the Commonwealth War Graves Commission"s Thiepval Memorial.

After that, I lost count of the next couple of small cemeteries.
Once back in Amiens we had some time before walking to our farewell dinner, which was very nice but with a group all talking at once, so very hard to hear the person next to you.

I started this last night but was very tired, so decided to finish it this morning.

Wednesday 13 September.

This tour end today.
Our bags don't have to be out until 8:45am and we head off for Villers-Bretonneux and Paris at 9:30am.

I'm overnighting at the Le Meridien Etoile Paris again and flying to Madrid tomorrow morning, all being well.
